ACROSTIC

As I lie dreaming, lit by stars,

Caressed in magic by the night;

Risen moon illumines scars

Oh, past I’ve folded out of sight!

Silver beauty of my dreams,

Touch me with forgetfulness;

I am lulled by cold moonbeams and

Calmed to mild regretfulness.

Passions veiled throughout the day,

Only liberate the dark;

Embers flare and fade to grey-

My nightmares likewise dimly spark.

Bring on the night! Bring on the moon!

You soul-devouring lords of blame-

Sling your stones, destroy me soon!

And never let me wake in shame.

Lonely, let me wake in fright

Lulled by cold moonbeams of night

Yet - never lost to His keen sight

Oh hold me, faith, and set me right.
