ETERNITY (TERZA RIMA)
I climb a wooded hill to see the stars
That prick the cloak of night with chilling eyes
Old fires forever gleaming from dead Mars.
I hear the morning as the songbirds rise
I see the glowing sun that drowns the night
And drops of dew like diamonds surprise.
Could I pretend to seek a better sight?
Or beg a greater boon be granted me?
So Nature’s answers set my fear to flight.
I search the vast horizon of the sea
And sift the countless grains of hissing sand
And marvel how such magic came to be.
I hold the stars of seashore in my hand
Eternity I try to understand.
